Today’s ride is to the Texas Holy Land of BBQ: LOCKHART!
We’re going to have lunch at Barb’s BBQ. It’s a relatively new place (at least by Texas BBQ standards), but it has awesome reviews.
You may be thinking “Bill, you magnificent BBQ finder: If it’s so great, won’t it have a line out front? We don’t want to wait!”
It may very well have a line out front when we get there. But fortunately, Lockhart has a number of great BBQ joints we can use as an alternate. There’s Kreuz, Terry Black’s, Black’s (the other side of the family). Smitty’s, and so on. Don’t worry, we’ll find a place and it’ll be AWESOME!
The details:
Meet at the parking lot next to the Shell across from RHD at 7:00 AM with KSU at 7:30. Yes, it’s an early KSU. But we want to miss as much of the heat as possible, and we want to get there as early as possible to beat at least a little bit of the crowds. We’ll ride a combination of highways and back roads and should arrive at Barb’s at 11:30. That’s about 172 miles. We’ll have a gas / rest stop in Sealy and another just after we start our return.
After eating, we’ll head back mostly on I-10. The ride will end at the Buc-ee’s in Katy. That’s another 125 miles. If everything goes to plan, we’ll finish up around 2 PM.
If you want to go (AND YOU KNOW YOU DO), please RSVP on the chapter website.
It’s summer folks, so start hydrating at least 24 hours before the trip. And bring LOTS something to hydrate with: We don’t want any incidents involving dehydration!!:
