We are doing an overnight ride to the Flying G Motorcycle Museum on 20-21 June (Father’s Day weekend). This museum has been one of the stops on the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas for the last few years. The first time we stopped they were closed but the owner saw us and invited us in for a private tour. We were so impressed we wanted to take other HOG members there for the experience. We will ride up on Saturday, stay overnight in Joaquin and ride back home Sunday while riding through the east Texas forest area along the way. Since some riders may not be used to the longer rides, we will make several rest stops along the way.
We will leave from the RHD dealership at ksu 8:00am. The route will take us up I-59/69 to Cleveland then back roads from there. We will be stopping for a bio break and donuts around 10:00 with a 2nd short stop around 11:15 before arriving at 1:00 in Joaquin where the museum is located. They are open until 3:00. The hotel is only 5 min away. We will not stop for a lunch break so eat as you wish at our stops along the way. We will leave for dinner at 5:30 for those that are interested.
Make your accommodations at the Executive Inn & Suites at 12449 US Highway 84 East, Joaquin, TX ((936) 269-9100). I suggest you call directly rather than booking on-line. We stayed here a few weeks ago and confirmed it is clean and a reasonably priced hotel. Since we are so close to the Louisiana border, we will cross over 1.5 mi away and have dinner at Big Zach’s. There are other choices if you prefer.
For the ride back we will meet in the morning at the What-A-Burger only .5 mi away for gas and breakfast. KSU will be 8:30 from there. The ride will take us through the Big Thicket National Reserve with a bio break at 10:00. Lunch will be at the famous Pickett House in Woodville around 11:45. From there we have another stop after an hour before the last stretch for about another hour on Hwy 90 back to Houston.
Thanks,
Bill Helms
